Our Story
We’re the Meekings family, proud owners of Moulin de la Barde since April 2011. What began as a dream in London became reality in July 2012, when we traded our long-term jobs – and the daily commute – for a new adventure in rural France with our two daughters in tow.
Renovating the gîtes started in January 2013, and with a lot of hard work we reached our goal. By Spring 2014 everything was ready, and on 28 June 2014 the local Mayor officially opened Moulin de la Barde to guests. Our very first summer was a joy – almost fully booked, happy guests with encouraging feedback, and even the beginning of new friendships. Since then, we’ve continued to grow year after year, welcoming guests throughout the seasons and sharing the beauty of this corner of France with everyone who stays.
Life here suits us perfectly. We’ve settled into the rhythm of the countryside and the French way of life – and we’re delighted to share it with you. Because we live on site, we’re nearby to welcome you, help with check-in and check-out, answer questions, or offer tips on where to go and what to see. Of course, we also understand that many guests prefer privacy and independence, and we’re equally happy to let you relax and explore at your own pace.
