River Beaches: we are spoilt for choice with the nearest sandy beaches at Aubeterre-sur-Dronne (15mins), Saint-Aulaye (25mins) and La Jemaye (30mins). La Jemaye is a huge lake with children’s play areas, beaches, canoes and pedaloes.
Restaurants: a variety of cuisines to suit all tastes and budgets can be found nearby in Saint-Severin, Aubeterre-sur-Dronne, Verteillac, Ribérac, Chalais and Cherval.
Golf: Le Manoir de Longeveau Golf and Country Club (15mins) is set within the grounds of the Longeveau estate, the 9 hole FFG golf course offers a challenge to players of all abilities. The club is welcome to all and has tennis courts and a restaurant. Or alternatively, for a bit of fun there is an 18-hole crazy golf course just 5mins away at Mini-Golf in Saint-Paul-Lizonne.
Châteaux & Churches: Numerous châteaux and Romanesque churches in the area are open for the public to visit. Particularly noteworthy are: Château de la Mercerie (25mins), Château de Bourdeilles (45mins), Château de Puyguilhem (1hr), Château La Rochefoucauld (1hr), Château de Hautefort (1hr35) and Château de Puymartin (1hr45) which is near the beautiful city of Sarlat whose wonderful architecture and medieval style buildings and stone roofs have made a backdrop for a score of many movies, such as Chocolat.
Caves “Grottes”: Stalagmites and stalactites can be found in the Villars caves near Brantôme (50mins) and in the Vézère valley (1hr30) the cave of Lascaux contains one of the most outstanding displays of prehistoric art ever found. The original cave is now closed to the public, but an exact copy can be found in an adjacent cave which is open to visitors.
Horseriding: Equestrian centres based at Bors de Montmoreau (15mins), Bonnes (20mins) and Villetoureix (20mins).
Canoeing: Available locally on the River Dronne at Aubeterre, Saint- Aulaye and Ribérac, and further afield at various towns and villages along the Dordogne and Charente rivers.
Zipwires (Accrobranche): for the more adventurous out there, there are zipwire courses nearby either at Moulin de Poltrot or Saint-Aulaye.
Tennis: Village tennis courts available to book within walking distance of the property.
Fishing: At Saint Séverin, Aubeterre and La Jémaye.
Wine & Cognac: The Bordeaux, Bergerac and Cognac vineyards are all within a 90 minute drive of the property. Many vineyards offer tastings and the opportunity to buy first rate wines at the cellar door. In Cognac, Martell, Hennessy (includes a boat ride on the Charente River) and Remy Martin (includes a train ride tour around the estate) offer tours of their cellars/estates. Also well worth visiting is the picturesque hilltop town of Saint-Emilion or Montbazillac for its sweet wine and beautiful Château.
Wildlife Parks: Le Parc Sauvage (25mins) nearby in La Tour-Blanche-Cercles, a 15 hectare park with farm and forest animals and birds of prey. Aquarium Perigord Noir (1hr20) in Le Bugue is an Alligator park which is the largest private freshwater aquarium in Europe. La Vallée des Singes (1hr45) at Romagne is a primate zoo with over 350 primates, 30 species, in a natural setting. Zoo La Palmyre (2hr) near Royan is one of the biggest animal parks in Europe including more than 1600 animals from all the continents.
Coast/Beach: The nearest beaches are at Saint-George-de-Didonne and Royan (1hr45).
